Best pillow for pregnancy with back pain

By the pillowed-it teamLast reviewed May 2026

Pregnancy back pain comes from a shifting center of gravity — your spine compensates for the belly weight by pulling forward, straining the lower back. A regular head pillow won't fix this. You need a body pillow that supports the belly, the lumbar curve, and the knees in one piece, while keeping you in left-side-sleep position (recommended for blood flow to the placenta after the second trimester).

Body pillow shapes explained

C-shape pillows wrap around one side and support the head, belly, and one knee — light and easy to flip. U-shape pillows wrap around both sides — full support but harder to share a bed. Wedge pillows are smaller and slot under the belly or behind the back — best paired with a regular pillow. Long bolster pillows are simplest and the cheapest entry; pair with a wedge for full support.

What changes after birth

Most of the body pillows below double as nursing supports for the first 6–12 months. The Boppy-style C-shape is particularly good for nursing posture. Don't think of these as single-use pregnancy spend.
